New Recommendations
Reka- I

This is an lp by the Russian post-rock/screamo band Reka. HOLY FUCK this is good. Think the soft atmospheric parts of Cult of Luna or Callisto mixed with the screamy parts of City of Caterpillar. I'm really into this. Will give it more listens this week for sure.

The Estranged- The Subliminal Man

If you like Remains of the Day and/or From Ashes Rise, but you want to listen to something that sounds absolutely nothing like them, this is for you. This is an lp( the newest one i think?) from ex-members of both of those bands, playing post-punk like it never went out of style. This is really good post-punk with a lot of attention to the punk part, but still has the characteristic gloomy atmosphere and retro sounding vocals. Really cool.

Arroyo- s/t lp

This is another band in the same vein of Reka, but a little less chaotic. Really pretty sounding parts with heavy parts that are reminiscent of Fall of Efrafa or Ictus' slow/heavy parts. VERY epic.

Ballast- Sound Asleep

This album reminds me of what would happen if the vocalist from I Object did vocals for Ekkaia. Melodic/neo crust. Sounds kinda like the aforementioned and other popular neo-crust stuff but less d-beat influence and a little more american (non-crusty) hardcore influenced.

Cop on Fire/Visions of War- split

Cop on Fire is an awesome spanish d-beat band with members of Ekkaia and Madam Germen. They sound kinda like No Tomorrow (from NC) but not in english. Fucking great live too. I've never heard Visions of War but their side is pretty interesting too. They're a crust band from Belgium and they cover "I Love Rock n Roll" but change the name and lyrics to "I love drink n roll", haha. Worth listening to just for that.

Ekkaia- Ya Hemos Aguantado El Sermon, Ahora Lo Destrozaremos
++-+FRONT+BY+IORISKA.jpg)
If you haven't heard of Ekkaia yet go download some or kill yourself. One of the all-time best melodic/emo-crust/whatever you want to call it bands. From spain. Fucking amazing. I just stumbled across this ep today and can't stop listening to it. It's my favorite of their releases. HIGHLY recommended.

Iskra- Bureaval

Iskra is a "blackened crust" band from canada. Their first release sounded really power-violence and crust influenced, but this one sounds a lot more black-metal and grindcore. Actually there is basically no crust here. Really straight-forward fast heavy black-metal(ish). Listen to it.

Maladie- s/t 7"

Awesome melodicrust band from Mexico (crazy right?). Nothing really new here just well done. Some awesome screamo parts mixed in for a welcome surprise. Nice.

Oiltanker- s/t

Great d-beat/crust band from Connecticut. Pretty traditional crust done well from Americans. Definitely worth a listen if nothing else. Really raw and noisy.

Black September- Tide of the Storm

This is not the NSBM band, this is the American crusty/thrash metal band. Really dark. Doomy at some parts. Black metal influence is apparent.

Reflections of Internal Rain - Last Flood

More neocrust shit here (sorry thats one of my go-to styles). This band is from Serbia and is doing it fucking great. Sounds similar to all the European leaders of the genre. Just really fucking great song writing. This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. HIGHLY recommended.

What I don't hate today:
Cult of Luna- The Beyond
Cult of Luna is my current favorite of the many bands marked "post-metal" by the genre police. It's a lot faster (which isn't saying much) than later releases like Eternal Kingdom. Eternal Kingdom is great, but the pacing on this record is just right for my tastes at the moment. The watchtower and leash are two of my all time favorite songs too, which helps.

Buy the record.
